Choose the right film for your job

... and know nothing about tinting.

We make it easy.

Select the outcomes you want to achieve and we list the films that will achieve those outcomes.

  • Choose a tinted film when privacy and glare reduction is important
  • Choose an untinted film when you don't want to spoil a beautiful view or when you have to comply with Body Corporate rules

Unsure what tinting can do for you, use our Priorities Checklist

Our Priorities Checklist identifies the most common priorities of customers (and the dislikes they want to avoid) and explains why the films listed will best achieve the outcomes sought (doc or pdf)

Why identifying your priorities is important?

GET THE RIGHT FILM FOR YOUR JOB

You must identify ALL your priorities to get the right film for your job.

  • It is not only the things you want to achieve that you should consider, like heat reduction, glare reduction and protection against fading but also the things you wish to avoid, like making the room feel dark, making the windows look like a mirror, or spoiling a beautiful view.

If you don't identify all your priorities you may solve one problem and end up with another. Why? Because the No1 priority for most people considering window tinting is the heat performance. The films that provide the highest heat protection at lowest cost are the old technology films that are highly reflective or very dark - the things most people don't want. If you have received a few quotes be aware that sales reps often offer customers one of the old technology films in the hope that they will have the lowest quote. The end result of the quote process can be three quotes for films that are dark or highly reflective, or both, and people then believe that this is their only choice.

Modern solar control films reduce heat in smarter ways and allow customers to enjoy the benefits of window tinting without compromising on natural light or on the appearance of their home.

When you identify ALL your priorities for a window film (both what you want to achieve and what you wish to avoid) more often than not you can get exactly what you want.

What are the most critical factors to consider when choosing a film?

CUSTOMER SATISFACTION

"93% of people who are unhappy with their choice of film say it is too dark or too reflective" - Customer Satisfaction Survey, 2006

While the heat performance of a film is important, it is the Visible Light Transmitted (VLT) and the Visible Light Reflected (VLR) that has the greatest influence on long term customer satisfaction.

The achievement of many customer priorities rely on the VLT or VLR of the film.

"I want privacy"

Privacy is achieved by the difference in the level of lighting between inside and outside - we cannot see from the lighter side to the darker side. (This means no privacy at night when the lights are on). To achieve daytime privacy a film with a VLT of less than 25% is required.

"I want privacy but I don't want my home to feel dark"

This is by far the most common cause of dissatisfaction. A "feeling" of darkness is determined by "visual acuity" - the ability of the eye to adjust to different lighting levels before the brain registers a "feeling" of darkness. While we are all different, we have found that for most people a VLT over 20% will not invoke a "feeling" of darkness. We recommend a film with a VLT over 20%.

"I don't want mirror windows"

Many people don't want their home windows to have a highly reflective appearance - "it looks industrial" is a common complaint. To avoid the "mirror" appearance we recommend films with a VLR of less than 15%, and the lower the better. (Clear glass have a VLR of 8%)

Note: All our films block 99% of the ultraviolet (UV) to reduce fading.
