CUSTOMER SATISFACTION
"93% of people who are unhappy with their choice of film say it is too dark or too reflective" - Customer Satisfaction Survey, 2006
While the heat performance of a film is important, it is the Visible Light Transmitted (VLT) and the Visible Light Reflected (VLR) that has the greatest influence on long term customer satisfaction.
The achievement of many customer priorities rely on the VLT or VLR of the film.
"I want privacy"
Privacy is achieved by the difference in the level of lighting between inside and outside - we cannot see from the lighter side to the darker side. (This means no privacy at night when the lights are on). To achieve daytime privacy a film with a VLT of less than 25% is required.
"I want privacy but I don't want my home to feel dark"
This is by far the most common cause of dissatisfaction. A "feeling" of darkness is determined by "visual acuity" - the ability of the eye to adjust to different lighting levels before the brain registers a "feeling" of darkness. While we are all different, we have found that for most people a VLT over 20% will not invoke a "feeling" of darkness. We recommend a film with a VLT over 20%.
"I don't want mirror windows"
Many people don't want their home windows to have a highly reflective appearance - "it looks industrial" is a common complaint. To avoid the "mirror" appearance we recommend films with a VLR of less than 15%, and the lower the better. (Clear glass have a VLR of 8%)
